I am a Western Buddhist nun, co-abbot of Embracing Simplicity Hermitage. I believe there should be an organic, creative, flexible space for older youth that allows them to question, think, experiment, investigate, contemplate, create and recreate without fear, intimidation or brainwashing...a space that evolves from the hearts and minds of the youth themselves with adults taking the secondary role as mentors and supporters of the youths' dreams. Next year, I hope to open a residential and retreat contemplative community for monastics and laity...we will offer sustained retreat conditions and support to those engaged in compassionate service.
