About

Daniel I. Yanez (aka Artist DIY) Is a Dallas native based out of the Oak Cliff area. Growing up poor and homeless, Daniel learned quick how to create something from nothing. He was first recognized for his abilities at a young age in elementary school where he was given an opportunity to take a few art classes at a local art college . After Graduating Sunset High School in Oak Cliff in 2003, Daniel pursued his College education at Mountain View College. That Fall he felt a whole new world had been opened up for him. Finally walking into his first gallery he knew he had found what he wanted to do and began to pursue art professionally. The First six years of his art career was working multiple jobs, heart ache and heart break of learning the business, and perfecting a personal style. During the most difficult time of his career he was also challenged with the duties of being a father. From the years of 2004 through the present he has raised 6 children. This is not even the beginning of what he has accomplished since that fall year at College. In 2012 Daniel Opened his first Art Gallery in Oak Cliff named The Basement. This was soon accompanied with another Gallery called the Attic the year after. Daniel Has since created thousands of works along with murals across the city of Dallas, meeting and impressing new people on a daily basis. Just recently in 2013 he was featured on, "The Texas Daily" and "D The Broadcast", local TV for working with Musical Angels (a local charity). He has founded The Basement Mural Project which beautifies vandalized walls in Dallas, and has hosted countless benefits for multiple charities through his galleries and art work. Daniel Yanez (Artist DIY) continues working on new series of works to even more develop his contemporary pop style. Expect even more out of Artist DIY in The future because he is focused on his art and building his community. My name is Daniel Isaiah Yanez (DIY) and I am a 28 year old artist out of Dallas, TX. I am Following my belief that i was put on this earth to create art. I believe this because like most kids i loved art, but what separates me from most is that i never stopped loving it. I never reached a point where i found it too hard to be creative and create something out of nothing. I strongly believe that I will be quite successful in my artistic odyssey because i will never stop reaching forward no matter how many nouns (person/place/thing) try to hold me back. I was asked once; "What is my greatest weakness when it comes to being an artist?". I said; "Knowing when i will be satisfied enough to know i have accomplished my goal of success as an artist. I do not know where that goal ends because i will never stop setting them." An Artist's work Is a still water reflection of who they are or who they wish to be. I believe that is the true reason i have chosen the style of contemporary pop art. I love to capture life, whether it be celebrity or not, and make it more exciting than what it really is. I love to capture a persons true essence and give it the power/energy of color and highlight the features that separate them from each other but at the same time make them the same. I feel using bright acrylics not only gives them a since of excitement but also gives great contrast from one part to another. I believe seeing the rough brush strokes in these perfectly outlined non shapes give a since of perfection but at the same time show how imperfect one truly is. Perhaps through my pop art I am discovering who we are and trying to make since of it. I Was raised from nothing but with my art you can truly see how unpredictable life can be and i can only hope i can continue to display it through my art.
