Middle-Class parent/grandparent with 2 college degrees barely worth the paper they're printed on thanks to our Industrial Technology (Manufacturing jobs and support workforce positions) having been deliberately "outsourced" for years. Most of the career-specific knowledge, I taught myself, though, beginning around age 7. Once I mastered the basics of Reading, Math, Science, etc.; I learned faster and developed greater mastery of skills I had taught myself by studying the right books and asking the right questions than any school could ever have taught. My beliefs are centered on Truth and Freedom, having spent a lifetime distilling Truth from the half-truths promoted by 501c3 "religion" corporations such as Judeo-Christian™ & New Age™, finding not much Truth except acknowledgement of inalienable Rights with which our Creator has endowed us and 501c3 "government" and "religion" corporations alike seem equally determined to deny and trample. I guess I'm a little like a combination of three familiar characters played by differet actors in TV shows or movies you might have seen before. Hugh Beaumont from "Leave It to Beaver" meets Christopher Lloyd from "Back to the Future" meets Mark Walberg from "Rock Star" lol The running joke among my friends is that my workplace looks a little like Doc Brown's laboratory in "Back to the Future" :-) A friend I've known for more than ten years also nicknamed me "Mr. Magoo" and I'm honored by the comparison. After all, Mr. Magoo was originally meant to portray Conservatives in a negative way, in protest of McCarthy's attempts to slow the tipping of a balance in the Media between Right and Left toward the extreme Leftist bias we see today by having known Soviet-funded radicals blacklisted. Mr. Magoo was intended to be this mean-spirited buffoonish character, sort of a 1950's "Archie Bunker" or "Frank Burns". Later, Mr. Magoo became a lovable character who always seemed to do OK despite all the crazy adventures and near-disasters he had to go through along the way. I'd say that fits me, a Conservative type who always seems to land on my feet like a cat after the occasional falls from tall fences. lol While I'm at it, I owe many thanks to Ann, a friend since 1988 and the closest I'll ever have to a 'little sister' in fact, for a series of very positive contributions to my life over the years. The older I get, the closer I get to "Grumpy Old Fart" status! Not as grumpy as Jeff Dunham's "Walter" yet, though. lol Just because certain opinions and / or behaviors might p*ss me off, that doesn't make me a "hater" at all. What some have ignorantly called 'hate' is only a lifetime of disgust with the obvious hypocrisy behind a double-standard euphemistically called by a number of innocuous-sounding and very deceptive catch-phrases. Double standards have disgusted me for as long as I can remember. What is wrong for one ought to be wrong for all, right? In today's 'evil is good, good is evil' social climate, however, that is NOT the case. The only "haters" I've ever met are those who HATE BEING TOLD THE TRUTH!!! Wake up, people! The Emperor is buck naked and ugly as a mud fence; if you haven't noticed, you're not paying attention! lol I'm an "Equal-Opportunity Grump" when being a grump is appropriate, but I hope nothing ever p*sses me off so much that I'll lose my sense of humor. So far, nothing has. "There's plenty of laughable stupidity in 'current events' and 'politics' these days, so if 'laughter is the best medicine' all I'll have to do is keep watching TV news and I should live to be 150!" Besides, Jimmy Buffett said it best: "If we couldn't laugh / We would all go insane." I'm looking to make some new friends and to re-connect with some old friends I haven't seen quite as often as I would like to see them who might share some of these memories. Idora Park, sold-out "lawn seats only" MSB concerts at Blossom, black-and-white television shows, Farmer Jim's, Cortland Roller Rink, OJ's Game Room, Space Invaders, fishing off the Causeway, Eastwood Cinema 1 & 2, Drive-In movies, local Rock bands of the 80's, the 80's Rock scene at Studio West, Blarney Stone, J.B.'s Lounge, McNasty's, Akron Agora, Glam / Hair Metal Triple bonus points to anyone who can name Artist and Title of the song from this lyrics quote: "I chose this life I'm livin' / This hard life of mine / But without you to share it with / It would just be wasted time" or fill in the missing lines of this lyrics quote "Like a bullet / From a gun / I'm locked in / Every time I / ... / ... " Any Friend Request accompanied by a Message with the right answers to both those questions will be Approved immediately whether I remember you from "back in the day" or not. Why? Because members of both bands are good friends of mine from "back in the day" and have kept in touch after all these years and anyone who remembers them THAT vividly deserves a place in my "Circle of Friends" too. Besides, just because I might not recognize someone now doesn't mean we don't know each other. We might just look a lot different now than we did then, or (remember, I was a college student back then) I might have just been too drunk when we met to remember it clearly now. lol Like most college students do, though, I outgrew partying THAT hard by the time I was 25.
