About

OUT of the night that covers me, Black as the Pit from pole to pole, I thank whatever gods may be For my unconquerable soul. In the fell clutch of circumstance I have not winced nor cried aloud. Under the bludgeonings of chance My head is bloody, but unbowed. Beyond this place of wrath and tears Looms but the Horror of the shade, And yet the menace of the years Finds, and shall find, me unafraid. It matters not how strait the gate, How charged with punishments the scroll, I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul. - Invictus, William Ernest Henley I enjoy reading, writing, learning new things, playing piano, writing and listening to music. I believe the only way to solve our problems is to address them with an open minded (not so open your brain falls out) view and apply the scientific method that has gotten us so much already. It's a shame that people seem to only notice the negative things about science, there are a couple negative things that have come from it's discoveries. However if you look around you at everything you have from the food in your refrigerator to the car that you drive to work in, you will realize *Science Works*. I am not sorry that scientific discoveries have shown us things we would have been much more comfortable now knowing. Our planet is not the center of the universe, not even the galaxy, not even the solar system. We are no where near the center. Our holy books from past generations are false, they may have been honest attempts at trying to explain why we exist, but any amount examination reveals that they are not compatible with reality. The scientific method, has shown itself to actually work and it is essentially the best definition of reality we have. The best part about science: ALL IDEAS ARE SCRUTINIZED, no idea is just accepted on account of the tenacity of those who believe it. Karma: Karma.......When bad things happen to people who are relatively good we just consider it misfortune. When misfortune falls upon people who do a relative deal of harm we consider that karma... Karma is just the mind rationalizing what it perceives as a higher justice at work. The truth is, good and bad things happen to all sorts of people at relatively the same rate. The only way you could argue the existence of karma is by saying something like: If you go around doing bad deeds you are sure to be seen and that increases your chances of paying for those deeds. But the reality of the world shows that karma is not a law, many monsters become millionaires while many decent people end up homeless and broke.

  • "In the incredibly unlikely scenario that after I die I am stood in front of god to beg for forgiveness from him the only thing I will have to say is: "Allowing the situation that has existed on earth, the pain and suffering, children dying from starvation by the thousands every day, and allowing the minority driven by greed to sustain this atrocity, all while having the ability to change it in an instant, makes you guilty of far worse crimes than any human could ever possibly commit. You are not worthy of worship, you are the abomination." "We will respond to the threat of climate change, knowing that the failure to do so would betray our children and future generations. Some may still deny the overwhelming judgment of science, but none can avoid the devastating impact of raging fires, and crippling drought, and more powerful storms. The path towards sustainable energy sources will be long and sometimes difficult. But America cannot resist this transition; we must lead it." “We keep on being told that religion, whatever its imperfections, at least instills morality. On every side, there is conclusive evidence that the contrary is the case and that faith causes people to be more mean, more selfish, and perhaps above all, more stupid.” ― Christopher Hitchens "Perhaps the greatest irony of the early 21st century is that the statistically most peaceful, law-abiding, intelligent, and morally upstanding portion of the United States is also statistically the most hated and least likely to attain public acceptance. That's right, America's Atheists are discriminated against at the highest levels of government and are reviled by millions, simply because we live a life of tolerance and peace based upon logic rather than superstition."-- Robert Paul Fischer. "Having good fortune and a decent life does not in anyway suggest that a loving god has anything to do with it. For every person living a decent life there are thousands living with 1 meal or less per day. All good fortune proves is that you live in a society that is flourishing and if you step back and take a look for the reason your society is flourishing it most certainly will be the result of science, not worship." -AGX "If you don't like people questioning your beliefs, you should consider not holding such questionable beliefs; If you are offended by people objecting to your religion, you should not carry such an objectionable practice." -AGX "One of the monumental ironies of religious discourse that can be appreciated is the frequency with which people of faith praise themselves for their humility while condemning scientists and other non-believers for their intellectual arrogance. There is in fact, no worldview more reprehensible in its arrogance than that of a religious believer: 'the creator of the universe takes an interest in me, loves me, and will reward me after death; my current beliefs, drawn from scripture, will remain as the best statement of the truth until the end of the world; everyone who disagrees with me will spend an eternity in hell....' An average Christian in an average church, listening to an average Sunday sermon has achieved a level of arrogance simply unimaginable in scientific discourse — and there have been some extremely arrogant scientists." -Sam Harris "Has anyone started to notice the irony of 'the road less traveled' the majority of people are on the road of Christianity or religion in general, therefore the road less traveled is the road of reality. The 'narrow path' is the path of enlightenment and scientific advancement. It has been a struggle to take this path we are on. This suggests we non-believers are on the ones who are on the path to greatness." -AGX "Religion does nothing to help people deal with death. Especially Christianity, all that does it give you more reason to fear death. If you did not live your life to exactly the standards that god requires, not only will you die, but you will suffer for eternity. Explain how that helps with fear of death? My unbelief has made my fear of death a thing of the past. I know I won't be punished after I am dead, I know any punishment for wrongs I commit comes in this life and this life is what matters. So I guess for me, my atheism is exactly what makes me behave better. I know this life is my only chance, that drives me to not fuck it up." - AGX "Once you consider the possibility that the things you believe might be wrong, once you make that minuscule change in your thinking.. A world of knowledge opens up to you and you begin to see things in a whole new light. The fallacies of your long held beliefs become so blindingly obvious that you have to turn away from them." -AGX "God(s) exist in the same way that fears or memories exist. Every believer has a completely different and unique god. All god(s) are a product of believers' personal imagination." "I have explained the problem with belief and blind faith numerous times... I do not mind personal opinions, I do not mind likes and dislikes. What I do mind is molding children's brains with false pictures of the universe without letting them explore it first. This is why I combat religion, because ALL RELIGIONS do this, either inadvertently or directly. Whether it be by praising Jesus or Alla in front of their children or reading them books about the "wonders of god's creation." Or on the extreme (which is now MORE COMMON in the world, due to the threat of evidence we have gained against religions) telling children they will suffer for all eternity if they do not accept Jesus into their heart, or if they do not obey the commands of Alla through the prophet Muhammad." -AGX "Any person who will not tolerate reasonable scrutiny of their beliefs, should not be taken seriously in the advancement of humanity." -AGX "The only thing that guarantees an open-ended collaboration among human beings, the only thing that guarantees that this project is truly open-ended, is a willingness to have our beliefs and behaviors modified by the power of conversation." — Sam Harris "When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours." - Stephen F Roberts "Consider it: every person you have ever met, every person you will pass in the street today, is going to die. Living long enough, each will suffer the loss of their friends and family. All are going to lose everything they love in this world. Why would one want to be anything but kind to them in the mean time?" -Sam Harris "After sleeping though a hundred million centuries we have finally opened our eyes on a sumptuous planet, sparkling with colour, bountiful with life. Within decades we must close our eyes again. Isn't it a noble, an enlightened way of spending our brief time in the sun, to work at understanding the universe and how we have come to wake up in it?" -Richard Dawkins "The days of our religious identities are clearly numbered. Whether the days of civilization itself are numbered would seem to depend, rather to much, on how soon we realize this." -Sam Harris "It makes me laugh when religious people say "atheists' lives are meaningless." Truth is, it is the exact opposite. We base our lives on reality. What we are made of, where we come from and we are capable of understanding it. The religious life, is based on a fictional point of view, that the meaning of life will come after you are dead. I've found the meaning in this life, I am no longer in waiting." -AGX"
