About

As per my brief: 'I am just a small town guy who is very lucky and blessed.' Although I moved around a lot early on as a kid, my family wound up settling down near Carmi IL (my small home town). I went through the Carmi middle school and high school and participated in sports, academic teams and eventually the newspaper. I enjoyed the company of the teachers and my fellow students, but when I graduated high school I was heading to college with only the idea that I liked computers. My parents and I preferred that I went to a Christian college, so I headed north to Kankakee IL to Olivet Nazarene University. I remembered thinking that Kankakee was a huge city (a thought that my wife still makes fun of me for to this day). I arrived missing anything familiar and still very awkward at making friends. This passed as people saw me, approached me and eventually befriended me. I decided to take up computer engineering, thinking there was no way I was smart enough to learn in depth programming or that I could handle sitting for hours on end looking at code. After having trouble with Calculus and quiting Physics to prevent my GPA from going down, I switched my major to Computer Science with an emphasis in Information Systems. My plan was to become a network admin. This required learning some programming, but nothing I felt that I could not handle. I even got a job working for the college networking department and learned a lot about network administration. One day immediately after my Programming I class a fellow classmate came up to me in the hall and said, "Did you understand any of that?". I replied, "Not really.". She introduced herself as Miranda and we proceeded, somehow, to get on the topic of Christian doctrine. I think it was because I went to the Nazarene church on campus. We seriously spent 3 hours debating and discussing this topic. I learned several months later that her boyfriend at the time was the son of a Nazarene pastor and they had differing beliefs. I really rather enjoyed engaging with this young woman, so I looked for other opportunities to talk to her. I made 2 more attempts, but she either didn't notice my attempts or was ignoring me (I really thought she was ignoring me). Not wanting to push anything, I left well enough alone and went back to my usual routine. [Interested in the rest of this? Facebook did not have enough room so I had to make a seperate note.
