- It's complicated
After high school, I spent 5 years in the U.S. Air Force repairing aircraft. I lived in W. Germany for 4 years, was married to a French soldier and had a son, then returned to Texas, where I raised my son by myself without any child support, while also being there for my aging mother. I worked for Lockheed Support Services, Inc. for 3-1/2 years before getting laid off, after which I fulfilled a lifelong dream and went to college. Unfortunately, it turned out that my course of study choice and "the real world" were not a great match for me, so after one year of teaching, I kept Rockport city parks looking good for about 4 years. Now I currently work as a veterinary assistant for a veterinary hospital. For awhile, I had my own home sewing & alterations business. Lately, I have been considering getting back into it. I have also been considering making arts & crafts, quilts, jewelry, etc. to sell. Maybe I'll eventually set up a shop on eBay. For now, I'm still tossing ideas around. I love to write, and have been addicted to it since high school. Maybe I should actually start DOING something about it. You know, put the addiction to good use. Hmm. I wonder if I might be able to get my foot in the door as an opinion or advice columnist? It might be worth a try. My main interest is genre novels, but trying to survive while writing one and looking for an agent can be an interesting challenge. Within the last few years, I have grown more interested in geneology and learning as much as I can about my Native American heritage, a heritage that was always denied to me because of fear, and my ancestors' need to keep it hidden for survival. Issures I really CARE about: Human Rights -- especially Native American & their descendents' rights, women's & children's rights Animal Rights -- Domestic and Wildlife -- Humans, in their Arrogance, have NO right to abuse and destroy God's/Creator's other creations, just because they believe themselves to be "above" the "ignorant beasts"...or are afraid of them. I CANNOT respect a person who does not respect animals, birds, and other lifeforms. The Planet -- If we don't learn to take care of the planet we're on, then HOW can we expect "God" to "give" us a new, better place to live? You can't trash or destroy the home you live in and be expected to be given a newer, nicer home for you to also destroy. If you want something better, then you've got to take care of what you've already got.
