About

Well, its been 2 years since Grace dragged me kicking and screaming into the 21st century, after which I promptly retreated back into the 19th century where I belong. But another site happened to require me to log into here tonight, and I was greeted with a long list of people I've known and cared about, some of whom I haven't spoken to in 20 or more years, but whose lives I am in still interested in and hope are going well. I'm sure there's some place here to post general life status for anyone interested in how mine has turned out, but until I find it, this will have to do. I married Kari Helland of Glasgow, Montana, 16 years ago after meeting her in grad school for philosophy and falling in love. We had 2 children, Grace and Alex, now 11 and 9. I have a daughter from a previous relationship, Jaden, 17, who lives with us. And we have temporary guardianship of friend of ours, Gavin, just turned 12. I'm a computer programming consultant to Walmart and living in Bentonville. I sold my own software company last year.

Favorite saying

  • ""A cloud of critics, of compilers, of commentators, darkened the face of learning, and the decline of genius was soon followed by the corruption of taste. ...this age of indolence passed away without having produced a single writer of original genius.... The authority ... still reigned in the schools; and their systems, transmitted with blind deference from one generation of disciples to another, precluded every generous attempt to exercise the powers, or enlarge the limits, of the human mind. The name of Poet was almost forgotten; that of Orator was usurped by the sophists." --Gibbons, The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire"
