Hi, my name is Corey Michael Nelson; I was born on September 4, 1988 with Cerebral Palsy (CP). My brother who's name is Jake was born on August 28, 1990. When I was 3, my Brother and I went into foster care because of severe physical and mental abuse, by both our mother and father. When I was 6 years old we went back to our biological parents but they did the same thing and abused us again when I was 7 we got taken away again and there parental rights were taken away. The last time I saw my parents I was 7 and we were in the court house. I was being taken by my DCF worker to testify agents my parents, but as soon as I got in the court room the judged ruled and the ruling was; all parental rights terminated. My brother and I lived together in a foster home until I was 13 years old. When I was about 12 I started to have serious behavioral problems like; being very defiant, running away, and not caring about anything or anyone. I'm not sure why, I had had all these problems or why. So when I was 13 my brother and I were separated. And he got adopted and I got kicked out. After being kicked out I went to a mental health program for teens with behavior issues, I was in the program, for 4 months then I moved to another foster. I stayed with the foster parent for 4 years. In 2004 my brother and his family moved Georgia. When I was 18 I moved to an Assertive Living home. I stayed there for 11 months. Then I moved in with one of my friend family. I stayed there for 9 months which was all but 2 months of my senior year. In the summer of 2007 I flew up to Georgia to see my brother I stayed up there for 2 weeks. I also went back up to Georgia for Christmas and every one I grew up was there, I felt like i was back home. That was my first Christmas with them since 2000. I flew back home New Year’s Eve. I graduated from Dixie M. Hollins High School on June 3, 2008. In high school I was very involved in school. I was a member of JROTC for 4 years. I was also a member of FBLA and a peer mediator. My senior year I was on my yearbook staff. Another way I was involved was I went to Homecoming and Prom both my junior and senior year. About 3 days before my high school graduation I moved into my own apartment. In august of that same year I started going to and educational program for people who graduated high school with a special diploma one year later I entered a GED program because that is the only way someone with a special diploma could get into college. So within a year I got my GED and enrolled into college. I graduated from Hillsborough Community College on May, 5 2014 A.S. degree in web design. I was married for 3 years from February, 2011 to July 2014. although we separated February 2014. I am an employee at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tampa, FL and have been since May, of 2012. I'm now a recent graduate from the university of South Florida. I graduated on May 6th 2017 and studdied information technology.
