Darnell in Welsh means Dream Place. If you have a special place to go to daydream or contemplate, that is your "Darnell". My first American ancestor, Stephen Hopkins, stayed at Jamestown from 1609-15. Returned 1620 with his family with the Pilgrims. He is on record as the first person in the New World to speak out about personal liberty and was almost hung for it. Shakespere wrote "the Tempest" based upon this. His descendant, also Stephen, 6 time governor of R.I., signed the Declaration of Independence. Born on the rocky coast of Maine into a long line of sailors (both parents) and shipbuilders (mom's family) Freedom and Independence have always been major concerns.
